“I’m a customer, too.”
We all have a reason we love Colorado Springs. For construction and maintenance crew supervisor Scott, it’s the mountains and, more generally, the outdoors. Not everybody gets to wake up and see the view we do.
Scott started his career with us in 2000, and for many years he was a heavy equipment operator working on water construction. In 2016, seeing an opportunity for professional growth, he pursued and completed additional training and certification on water distribution. And now, in his third year as a supervisor, Scott still works outside most of the time.
“I carry my computer with me, and I work side by side with my guys. It helps keep them involved,” says Scott. “That way, we are all taking ownership in our projects. I like to be out in the field helping when I can.”
This sense of camaraderie, and the feeling of doing an important job well, motivates Scott. And there’s more.
“I’m a customer also. The service I provide impacts our water system.”
And he takes that service seriously. Whether performing routine maintenance or serving on an emergency response crew, Scott is committed to doing the job right. Right for his crew, right for the community and right for the environment.
Since our community is not situated on a river, we engineer and maintain an intricate system to bring water here. Ultimately, Scott and his crew help deliver that water to you.
They also repair water main breaks, working diligently to prevent or mitigate damage to natural habitats and restore areas as needed. They coordinate with our environmental teams to ensure water quality.
We track and report these events and do our best to advise customers of service disruptions. Scott changes the current by engaging with the community and keeping them informed about what to expect with the work his team is doing. “Communication with our customers is key.”
